About Me

I am currently a second year MS student at the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University specializing in AI and Information Retrieval.  I have been working under Prof. Mark Musen  as a research assistant since September '07 developing methodologies for better information retrieval and vertical search of bio-medical data. We are investigating how knowledge represented by ontologies can be used to extract better and richer results from the data. As part of my work I investigated and performed a comprehensive comparison of how various concept recognizers can be used to recognize entities in biomedical data and mapped to ontology terms. We published this work at the AMIA '09 where it was awarded the best presentation and was one of the 17 papers selected to be included in the BioMed Central journal.  My current areas of interest Information Retrieval and Search, Information management & integration using semantic web technologies, Data Mining,Machine Learning, Semantic Web.

I completed my undergraduate studies in CS at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, in July 2007.  As part of my undergrad studies I had the unique and enriching experience of  pursuing a number of internships. I interned at National University of Singapore, Singapore, University of Zurich, Switzerland and HP Labs, Bristol UK.

In my past year at Stanford, I have done a number of exciting projects in the field of information retrieval, data mining and machine learning. In the natural language processing class I did a project in which we developed a methodology based on maximum entropy classifiers to perform search over unstructured text data from Craigslist. In the data mining class I took a shot at the Netflix Movie recommendation challenge. Instead of taking a conventional machine learning or clustering approach, we investigated how adding information about the genres, actors and directors from IMDB can prove helpful in recommending titles. Prof. Anand Rajaraman has even blogged about the results and technique.
